UH OH…
Is my child having an emergency?
A dental emergency is when a tooth becomes loose before its time, falls out from trauma, or is infected. This is because a fallen, infected, or loose tooth needs to be cared for immediately to preserve the jawbone.
Please don’t hesitate to call our office - that’s what we’re here for! We’ll be happy to give you guidance and answer any questions.
Firstly, try not to panic. We understand that it’s not easy to see your child in pain - our team is just a call away.
If your child has a loose tooth or a tooth that’s bleeding, place gauze over the area to stop the bleeding and give us a call. If a tooth has fallen out, grab it from the crown, put it in a secure container, and call our office.
If your child is in pain or discomfort from a dental emergency this will be a huge burden to their everyday lives. Emergency care will get them back to feeling whole.
An infected tooth will put your child at risk of severe complications that will require more complex procedures such as an extraction. It can even lead to fatal complications such as sepsis.
To be safe, always give us a call if you think your child is having a dental emergency. Our Bell Gardens children's dentist can get them treated with same-day care, putting them out of pain and back into your arms with a healthy smile.
Think of the baby teeth as the blueprint for healthy adult teeth to grow in, without that, the adult teeth won’t know where to go! That’s why it’s important to come into our office if a premature baby tooth is knocked out.
Knocked-out baby teeth are not generally replaced but it’s important to get your child’s mouth examined and cleaned to prevent infection. We will also determine if a space maintainer is needed to maintain the proper gap between their teeth. This keeps their teeth from shifting toward the new space.
Ultimately, coming into our office is essential in keeping your child out of pain and saving time and money from the complications that can arise from prematurely lost baby teeth.
